I’ve finally upgraded this blog to Wordpress 2.3 and I’m glad I did! The problem with the Who Sees Ads plugin has not been resolved as such, it eventually turned out to be a conflict between that and the Contact form plugin that I use. Downgrading the version of the Who Sees Ads plugin seemed to have fixed the issue though, strangely enough!
I could really get used to the automatic notifications of plugin updates, it was one of the cumbersome procedures involved in maintaining Wordpress. That statement really does detract from the simple upgrade process though and I fully appreciate the Wordpress team for getting together such an awesome software chock full of features.
There are five features that really stand out in 2.3, the hyped tagging feature, the not-so-hyped automatic plugin update notifications, better permalinks handling, an improved post editor and the replacement of Technorati by Google Blog Search for displaying the number of links to your blog. I’ll leave you with a few snapshots in a final bid to get you to update your blog if you haven’t already done so.
As a final note, the tagging and a few other additional features will not be available to you unless your theme is updated to work with the latest version.

Hehe, oddly enough, WordPress actually messes with my .htaccess file.
If I use htaccess, it over rides WP, and hence helps in redirects etc. But then, I have problems with multi url for single post.
If I get rid of htaccess, WP helps canonicals, but I will lose out on redirects and other misc. stuff.
In the end, I have to use htaccess+permalink validator. Too bad, WP features are actually making me go nuts
Hey, you’ve still got the hello world post….why? Nostalgia?
Which is why I still run my Permalinks plugin
Actually, if you edit a few lines in the core of WP, you can eliminate the “/” issue - but with so many updates, its easy to miss doing it after you’ve updated.
About the Hello World post, its not the WP default, its actually my first post. I just decided to retain the title and weave a post around it.
I’m yet to upgrade to 2.3… I’m a little concerned as to how it will work with one or two of my PHP “hacks”!
Thanks for visiting John, have you checked the hacks with the Plugin Compatibility List I point to in the article?

So, how’s the update been? It took down two of my favourite plugins - Similar Posts, and Popularity Contest(Alex King released an update for PC later).
My only hope now is Semiologic’s plugin. Which related posts plugin do you use?
I tried Related Entries, only to find it doesn’t work - even through manual install
I use Wasabi’s related posts plugin, you haven’t been reading my 9 Plugins to kick-start your Wordpress blog have you?
