Are you among the bloggers who just look at the right hand side of the page when you log into your ACP? Even if that were the case, you can’t have missed the release of Wordpress 2.3. The commotion has died down and the dust has settled around the Blogosphere since its release and the bloggers who upgrade regularly have settled into their spanking new Admin Panel.
I’ve been playing the waiting game all along, waiting for the early birds to try it out and spot the bugs (sorry if you were one of them!) and to let some of the plugin authors update their plugins to be compatible with WP2.3, it seems its pretty stable now and I’m looking to upgrade to the new version too. I’ll be making the upgrade today/tomorrow, and I’ll post how it went. If you haven’t yet upgraded, I suggest you do - its a major upgrade and you shouldn’t be missing it. Do check if your plugins are compatible with it before you upgrade!
Here’s a meme out to Steven to update it from 2.0.7 (gasp!) to 2.3! And congratulations to The Writer’s Manifesto for having upgraded to 2.3.
Thanks for the heads up by Sumesh about the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade Plugin, should make the upgrade process really simple.
Have you made the switch to the newer version? Did you run into any hitches? Do let me know in the comments.
Update: I’m having some teething problems upgrading with the Automatic Upgrade Plugin. It seems it conflicts with the Who Sees Ads plugin. I’ll make a detailed post after I upgrade the normal way. It seems the trouble is with the latest version of Who Sees Ads and had nothing to do with the Automatic Upgrade Plugin.

Yes, I’ll be upgrading soon.

Sure Steven, tagging you was my good deed for the day
Thanks for visiting!
Hi Kartik,
Thanks for the mention. You are spot on however with the plugin issue. I never realized that it was due to the upgrade. For now I choose to simply deactivate them, but some would be great to use like the “user online” which doesn’t work. Anyway, I suppose there isn’t much I can do besides waiting for bug fix releases.

Yes, I’ve upgraded. I use the Copyblogger theme, as well, and you’ll be happy to know that it is fully compatible.
The only plugin I’m having problems with so far is Alex King’s Articles. It simply won’t work, even though he claims that it is a new release compatible with 2.3.
Use the Automatic Upgrade plugin but run the Testflight plugin first as it will spot problematic plugins for you.
@Monika
You’re welcome! And yes, it would probably be best to wait until the plugin authors update the plugin. I was lucky that ironically an older version seems to be working reasonably well with 2.3!
@JHS
Not many themes are fully compatible so to speak, the tagging feature is not supported by many themes by default, but for sure, Chris would release an update soon
Like I mentioned, the automatic plugin did work well I guess, but I restored the backup as soon as I noticed that things didn’t go perfectly well - only eventually did I realise that the trouble was with the Who Sees Ads plugin.
Thanks for visiting both of you!
